Jeremiah 10:12-13 - The Lord's Creation

Jeremiah 10:12-13 “But God made the earth by his power; He founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.”

Spring weather is delightful, the nice cool breezes in the dawn and evening and a warm comforting sun in the noon. The heat of summer is not yet here, but the chill of winter is fast fading into memory. Or at least thats what we think of spring. We neglect to think of the pollen which turns our world into various shades of yellow. We forget about the days of rain and thundershowers. We forget about the biting wind rushing around, and the dust being stirred up.  Most of all we forget to really appreciate the world around us. We have our picture perfect spring - an imaginary spring that we desire, and then we have those things about spring which we do not like. We forget the world as it is, that each day was specially designed to by The Master Designer, no day is hotter or colder than He intended. No day is windier or calmer, and there is just the right amount of pollen according to His design.

The Lord creates each day unique and special, a perfect day that the Lord has made.  His power over the weather is absolute, His authority paramount in all the universe. If what He does is perfect, then what He is doing in you and I is also perfect. He is perfecting us, molding us, growing us. Like the rest of His creation, our Creator pays intense and personal attention to you and I. He focuses Himself entirely on you and strives to grow you according to His perfect will.  Not a thing goes by that God does not see, no event is unnoticed in our lives. He who can control the thunder and lightning is easily able to arrange the meetings and events in our lives.

Yet our Lord has given us something unique and special in all creation. The Lighting has to go where God commands it, but we have choice. We have the ability to ignore God's urgings. We chose what we do and where we go. We chose our own paths, even if they diverge from what God desires for us. Those choices can often times lead us into trouble too, yet God never leaves us, never gives up on us, never fails to still give advice and ask us to heed Him. This is the Lord we serve: mighty, powerful, everywhere, and yet caring, soft, and gentle. He asks of us, not demands. He encourages us, not forces. We are not the weather to be controlled, or the seasons to be planned. We are His creation, the pride of all His work, and He defers to us! Perhaps it is time to defer back to Him and let Him work His mighty work in our lives, especially in those areas we have taken control of.

This week, lets enjoy creation as never before, lets enjoy it as God's daily, self-renewing gift to us. Lets also make an effort to return control to Him and follow His advice more closely.

Great God, the world is full of Thee, Thy kindness, and Thy power;
The bright blue sky, and rolling sea, green tree, and summer flower.

And every day, and everywhere, Thou watchest everything;
The tender lamb enjoys Thy care; the little birds that sing.

And very, very kind indeed Thou art, O God, to me;
Supplying all my daily need; and helping patiently.

Teach my young heart to yield its love through Jesus Christ, Thy Son;
That I may dwell with Thee above, when life below is done.
