Psalm 119:25-32 His word which draws us

Psalm 119:25 “My soul cleaves to the dust; revive me according to Your word.” (NASB)
Psalm 119:32 “I shall run the way of Your commandments, for You will enlarge my heart.” (NASB)

Isn't interesting how conversations with people work out? I find that the Lord often provides further understanding and knowledge in His word and the depths thereof in the common, daily conversation between people and the passing, thoughtless comments that are made.

During this past week, I was having a conversation with a couple from a local church, Pam and Earl. We were talking about various topics, all revolving somewhat around the idea of living a fulfilled life and Pam said something in passing that has stuck in my mind all week. She explained that she had been talking to one of her friends who asked “So what are Earl's hobbies?” and Pam had to think about that. Earl likes to watch a ballgame on television, but only occasionally. He isn't really interested in cars or computers. He rarely reads a novel and he certainly does not go around pub hopping. After some thought, Pam said “The Lord! Earl is absolutely all about God and everything about God, he eats, sleeps, eats, reads, lives the Lord!” Now as she told this story (for whatever purpose or point I cannot recall) Earl, who was sitting next to her turned red and was embarrassed. But I was astounded! There was nothing for him to be embarrassed about! His wife, who knows him better than anyone else on earth ever has had a hard time finding anything else in his life that could be considered a hobby besides serving and loving and knowing and seeking after our Lord Jesus!

What does that have to do with these passages? Much! Earl typifies - at least to me – the type of person who we read about in this Psalm. This fourth section, based off the idea of Daleth or “door” reminds us that the only way to live, to truly and absolutely live a fulfilled and exemplary life is through running towards God, seeking desperately after Him and ignoring everything else. Why spend the time watching television or reading novels when we can spend that same time reading and praising Jesus? Why even eat or sleep if we can instead put that time to better use by searching after and pressing towards our Saviour? We who desire to live a Christ-centered life, a Christ seeking life must find ourselves constantly drawn towards Him, and when we are not we must seek why we are not and remove that blockage from our lives. We desire that any false way is removed from our live and instead we choose the faithful way. We will find ourselves meditating on God's wonders as He shows us how to walk in His ways.

My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine;
for thee all the follies of sin I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou;
if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

I love thee because thou hast first loved me,
and purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree;
I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow;
if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight;
I'll ever adore thee in heaven so bright;
I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow;
if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.
