Luke 24:32,34b Commune with the Lord! He Likes it!

Luke 24:32,34b “They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?”.... “The Lord has risen indeed”

Easter weekend is my favorite time of year. In fact my personal calender revolves around Easter more than any other holiday – so much so that I would rather have Easter be my new year than December/January! Its all because our Lord has risen that we have this joy that surpasses understanding. How many times in our lives have we been dejectedly going about our business like the two men, Simon and Cleopas, when we run into someone who cheers us up? How many times have we spent time with the Saviour only to realize later that we were in His presence – and only once his tangible presence was gone! I have found that when I find myself saddened and dejected, or dealing with issues of the day that when I spend a little time praising, praying, reading, and communing with my Lord that things tend to get better! Well, maybe the situation does not get better, but my attitude does and that makes all the difference. The Lord's presence in my life makes all the difference. After each and every experience (though experience is the wrong word for it) with Him, I want to run out and shout like Mary Magdalene “I Have seen the Lord!”

When Jesus first started His ministry, he called 12 people to follow Him. After His death, He again called to them to “Follow me!” (John 20:19) He is also calling us to follow Him, to seek and to enjoy fellowship with Him. That one little thing – Fellowship – is so important to our Lord. It is only when we fellowship with Him that our hearts burn within us. If we find ourselves growing lukewarm then perhaps it is time to reheat our hearts and to spend more time fellowshipping with our risen Saviour. His death freed us and His resurrection redeemed us. This gives us every motivation we need to fully commit and commend ourselves to His care like He commended His spirit to the Father (Luke 23:46) and the time we spend with Him is never pointless.

I know that my Redeemer lives; what comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead;He lives, my ever living Head.

He lives to bless me with His love, He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed, He lives to help in time of need.

He lives triumphant from the grave, He lives eternally to save,
He lives all glorious in the sky, He lives exalted there on high.

He lives to grant me rich supply, He lives to guide me with His eye,
He lives to comfort me when faint, He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.

He lives to silence all my fears, He lives to wipe away my tears
He lives to calm my troubled heart, He lives all blessings to impart.

He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly Friend, He lives and loves me to the end;
He lives, and while He lives, I’ll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

He lives and grants me daily breath; He lives, and I shall conquer death:
He lives my mansion to prepare; He lives to bring me safely there.

He lives, all glory to His Name! He lives, my Jesus, still the same.
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives, I know that my Redeemer lives!
~Hymn by Samuel Medley, 1775~
