Ecclesiasted 6:14 - God Makes Every Day

Ecclesiastes 7:14 “When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future.”

I am certain that we have all experienced the vagaries of life, up one day and down the next.  I know that we all wonder what makes one day better or worse than another and that maybe, just maybe something we did is responsible for making our day better, or worse.  We also tend to look at the good days and be happy and expect them to be the norm throughout our life but when bad times come obviously God is allowing the bad times to show up and harass us for some reason. Perhaps we did something wrong and we are being punished for whatever we did by having all these evil things happen to us – we neglect to look upon the good days as blessings from God.

It is good to be reminded that God made both the good times and the bad, that He has it all under control.  We don't know what the future will bring us but we do know that God is in control of it. We don't know what problems we will be facing down the road but we do know that God will be there with us as we face them.  We don't know what blessings that God has in store for us but we do know that He has them planned and wants to give them to us.  Today is not an indicator of tomorrow. Past times are not an indicator of the future times. Times are as God wills, as he determines need to be for our benefit, our growth, and what will allow us to give Him the greatest glory.

This week then, lets not focus on what events occur, or how the positively or negatively affect us. Instead, lets focus on the one who made those events, who allowed them to happen, who goes through life with us and helps us. Lets give God thanks, glory, and praise for all that He does.

Another day begun!
Lord, grant us grace that we,
Before the setting of the sun,
Redeem the time for Thee.

Another day of grace
To help us on our way!
One step towards the resting-place,
The eternal Sabbath-day.
